Poster Design, Typography . Type II
To showcase our knowledge of type terminology, my Typography 2 class was asked to create a poster that included definitions of key type terms and visual representations of each term. This complex poster needed a system to organize the information and a compelling story to create a seamless composition. Below I show my process starting with a very simple idea, working my way to a full intricate poster.
To get started, I played around with size and movement of the type to create some options to get the ball rolling. Because I was going to use a strong structure of the definitions, I knew I wanted to create as much movement as possible to keep the viewers eye moving around the poster.
I only introduced a secondary color later on in my process because I wanted to make sure the entire design worked in black and white first. There needed to be a balance between all the elements and color has a strong weight to it. I wanted to place the darkest darks delicately around the composition as to not draw too much attention to themselves but also as a way of guiding through the composition. The chartreuse was then used as a highlight to bring some life and direction.
